BATON ROUGE – LSU senior tight end Colin Jeter was selected to the 2016 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, the All Sports Association in Fort Walton Beach Florida announced Wednesday.
The Wuerffel Trophy, known as “College Football’s Premier Award for Community Service,” is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
A native of Longview, Texas, Jeter started nine games at tight end last season for the Tigers, hauling in 12 catches for 132 yards and one touchdown. His first career touchdown came on a 1-yard pass from Brandon Harris against Auburn last season.
Jeter is a two-time member of the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll, earning the distinction in the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
Jeter has also been active in the community as he made hospital visits to encourage children in the Baton Rouge area.
Wuerffel Trophy semifinalists will be announced Nov. 3, and finalists will be selected Nov. 23.
The formal announcement of the 2016 recipient will be on Dec. 6 at the National Football Foundation’s press conference in New York City.
Jeter hopes to join Rudy Niswanger as LSU players to win the award as Niswanger was the recipient of the award in its first season in 2005.
