Soccer’s Hensley Named to GSU Hall of Fame

BATON ROUGE – Georgia Southern Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein announced Monday that LSU Soccer associate head coach and former Eagles standout Debbie Hensley is among the university’s seven-member Class of 2016 that will soon be inducted into the Georgia Southern Athletics Hall of Fame in a ceremony to be held Sept. 17.

Hensley was a two-time All-Southern Conference soccer player in 1994 and 1995 during her collegiate career at Georgia Southern University as one of the school’s all-time leading scorers.

Hensley remains the program’s second-leading all-time goal scorer with 42 goals during her time as an Eagle, including 15 goals in back-to-back seasons in 1993 and 1994 and 12 goals in 1995 to equal both the fourth and eighth best season totals, respectively, in team history. She is also the No. 3-ranked point scorer in Georgia Southern history while racking up 107 points in her career.

Hensley’s senior season in 1995 was also highlighted with selections as the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Female Athlete of the Year and a member of the Umbro Select All-Star Team for her performance.

Now entering her 12th season as a member of Brian Lee‘s coaching staff at LSU, Hensley has helped build a program in Baton Rouge that has made five NCAA Tournament appearances, including its most recent tourney appearance last fall to cap a successful 2015 season. The Tigers have also won four SEC Western Division championships while finishing as the SEC runners-up three times since her arrival in 2005.
