TULSA, Okla. – Junior Jordan Daigle of the LSU men’s tennis team is set to compete in the NCAA Singles Tournament Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. CT at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Daigle, who is currently ranked No. 44 in the nation, will square off against 65th-ranked Uros Petronijevic from the University of San Diego in the first round of 64.
The two competed in January 2015 at the ITA Kickoff Tournament in College Station, Texas, and Daigle defeated Petronijevic 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 on court one.
Daigle will also compete in the doubles tournament with partner Boris Arias starting Thursday. The two-time all-American duo is ranked sixth in the nation and will face No. 25 Shawn Hadavi and Richard Pham of Columbia University.
“The NCAA Tournament is a great opportunity and reward for both Jordan and Boris,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “They are able to play without the pressure of the team match riding on their result, which can be a good thing. If you are able to get a win under your belt sometimes the draw can open up and work in your favor.”
Daigle has notched all eight of his singles victories on court one this season and has upped his total to 25 career singles wins, including one top-20 victory.
Petronijevic was named the West Coast Conference player of the year in 2015 and is a two-time member of the All-WCC singles first team. The senior has been ranked as high as No. 20 in the ITA Singles Rankings in his career.
The winner of Wednesday’s match will move forward to face the winner of the match between No. 25 Axel Alvarez Llamas of Oklahoma and Georgia’s Austin Smith, who is ranked 17th.
