Notes on the Tigers
LSU is ranked No. 9 this week in the Baseball America poll after posting a 3-1 mark in its four games last week … LSU posted a 2-1 SEC series over second-ranked Vanderbilt in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field … LSU coach Paul Mainieri earned his 1,300th career win on Friday, when the Tigers posted a 3-2 win over the Commodores … Mainieri, who has a career mark of 1,300-663-7 in 34 seasons of collegiate coaching, became just the 16th coach in NCAA Division I history to reach the 1,300-win plateau … Mainieri also became just the seventh active NCAA Division I coach to win 1,300 games … LSU hit .350 (36-for-103) as a team in the Vanderbilt series with 23 runs on 36 hits and six steals in seven attempts … junior shortstop Kramer Robertson enjoyed a remarkable week at the plate, batting .778 (7-for-9) with one double, four RBI, five runs, one stolen base, five walks, three hit-by-pitches and an .882 on-base percentage … in LSU’s series victory over Vanderbilt, Robertson hit .750 (6-for-8) with one double, four RBI, three runs, four walks, one-hit-by-pitch, one steal and an .846 on-base percentage … freshman rightfielder Antoine Duplantis batted .533 (8-for-15) in four games last week with one triple, four RBI, one walk and two hit-by-pitches … in LSU’s series win over Vanderbilt, Duplantis hit .500 (6-for-12) with three RBI, five runs, two steals and a .571 on-base percentage … Duplantis is LSU’s leading hitter this season, batting .364 (44-for-121) with six doubles, three triples, 16 RBI, 23 runs and nine stolen bases … sophomore first baseman Greg Deichmann hit .500 (6-for-12) in the Vanderbilt series with three doubles, three RBI and two runs .. junior left-hander Jared Poche’ blanked Vanderbilt in seven innings of work on Thursday, allowing just four hits with three walks and eight strikeouts … with the win in Game 1 of the three-game SEC series, Poche’ improved to 4-3 this season and lowered his ERA to 2.03 … in 48.2 innings of work, Poche’ has recorded 44 strikeouts and limited opponents to a .234 batting average … sophomore right-hander Alex Lange defeated Vanderbilt on Friday, limiting the Commodores to two runs on three hits in 6.1 innings with three walks and nine strikeouts … junior right-hander Hunter Newman posted a brilliant relief effort on Friday to earn his first save of the season … Newman blanked Vanderbilt over 2.2 innings, allowing just two hits with no walks and a career-best six strikeouts … in 14 appearances this season, Newman has recorded 24 strikeouts in 17 innings, and he is limiting opponents to a .190 batting average.
