AUBURN, Ala.– Down 8-2 in the top of the ninth, LSU rallied for three runs, but it was not enough as the Tigers dropped Game 1 of Saturday’s doubleheader against Auburn in Plainsman Park, 8-5.
Game 2 is slated to start 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1 and can be viewed online only via the SEC Network+ and the WatchESPN app.
Alex Lange (2-2) suffered the loss after allowing seven earned runs on five hits. The sophomore right-hander struck out eight and walked six in 6.2 innings of work.
Justin Camp (2-1) earned the win, firing 5.0 innings and giving up two earned runs on four hits, walking four and striking out one.
Auburn scored four runs in the third inning after a wild pitch scored shortstop Cody Nulph from third and a three-run double by catcher Blake Logan put Auburn up 4-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, LSU cut into the Auburn lead with a two-out, two-RBI double by pinch hitter Jordan Romero to make it 4-2.
Auburn tacked on two runs on a two-run home run by left-fielder Joshua Palacios in the bottom of the fourth. Auburn one run in both the seventh and the eighth on a double by Logan and a single by Anfernee Grier, respectively, to make it 8-2.
Wiht one out in the top of the ninth, LSU centerfielder Jake Fraley singled in second baseman Cole Freeman from second, and first baseman Greg Deichmann hit a two-run home run to right-center field to make it 8-5.
