Gymnastics Earns Top Seed at NCAA Athens Regional

BATON ROUGE – The NCAA announced Monday the field of 36 that advanced to postseason competition, and the LSU gymnastics team earned the No. 3 overall national seed and will compete as the No. 1 seed at the Athens Regional hosted by the University of Georgia.

The Athens Regional will begin at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, April 2, from Stegeman Coliseum.

LSU (18-4) will be joined at the regional by No. 10 overall national seed and regional No. 2 Georgia.

Tickets to the regional and NCAA Championships are available for purchase at www.NCAA.com/tickets

This marks LSU’s 32nd-consecutive NCAA regional berth and the 34th in school history. The Tigers are seeking their fourth-straight regional title and 15th overall.

The two teams with the highest scores at the end of the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, on April 15-16.

The rotation schedule for the regional competition has been determined. As the No. 1 seed in Athens, LSU will start the meet on the bye before bars and rotate to bars, beam, bye, floor and end on vault.

No. 2 Georgia will start on beam, No. 3 Oregon State will start on floor, No. 4 Arizona will begin on the bye before floor, No. 5 George Washington will open on bars and No. 6 Michigan State will compete first on vault.

It will be the third-straight meet in which LSU competes in the order of bars, beam, floor then vault. The Tigers did so at Texas Woman’s on March 12 and at the SEC Championship on March 19.

LSU will enter the competition ranked in the Top 5 on all four events, including the No. 1 ranking on vault. The Tigers are No. 2 on floor, No. 3 on beam and No. 5 on bars.

In the individual rankings, Ashleigh Gnat is No. 1 nationally on vault and floor, and she is 17th on beam.

Myia Hambrick is 10th in the all-around, 17th on bars, 24th on vault and 25th on beam.

Sarah Finnegan is No. 4 on beam and No. 11 on bars, while Sydney Ewing is No. 10 on vault, Erin Macadaeg is No. 23 on beam and Randii Wyrick is No. 24 on floor.
