NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – LSU junior Ashleigh Gnat earned a spot on the Southeastern Conference Gymnastics Community Service Team, the league office announced Friday.
A Lake Mary, Florida native, Gnat has served as a catalyst for the LSU gymnastics team’s community service efforts this season.
Gnat has completed nearly 30 hours of community service work in the current school year.
She has made several hospital visits in the Baton Rouge area and worked in a local church nursery. In addition, Gnat has volunteered at several service events, including the Blue Ribbon Soiree, Halloween BOOzar, Thanksgiving with the Tigers, Gardere School project, LSU Dance Marathon, Be the Match program, Wheels to Success bike race, hospital Radiothon and Sickle Cell Sunday event.
Inside the gym, Gnat has been a leader for the Tigers as she ranks No. 1 nationally on vault and floor, and she has earned SEC Gymnast of the Week and SEC Specialist of the Week once each this season.
Gnat leads the nation with a single-season school-record five perfect 10.0 scores with three on floor and two on vault, and she leads the SEC in vault titles (nine), floor titles (eight) and overall individual titles (22) this year.
No. 3 LSU (13-2) will open postseason competition Saturday in the second session of the SEC Championship inside Verizon Arena in North Little Rock. The meet is slated to begin at 5 p.m. CT, and it will air live on SEC Network with six different live video streams available on WatchESPN.com as well.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 21 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight a student-athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.
