BATON ROUGE – The Sporting News added to the list of accolades for LSU’s Ben Simmons as he was named The Sports News’ national Freshman of the Year.
Simmons and the Tigers leave Wednesday after practice for the Southeastern Conference Tournament in Nashville at the Bridgestone Arena. The Tigers will play on Friday at approximately 2:15 p.m. against the winner of the Vanderbilt-Auburn/Tennessee winner in the quarterfinals.
Simmons on Tuesday was named the national Freshman of the Year by USA Today and by ESPN’s Jeff Goodman.
He is also on The Sporting News Freshman All-America team and the magazine’s second-team All-American quintet.
