Notes on the Tigers
LSU posted a 2-2 mark in last week’s games, including a series victory over Sacramento State in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field … the Tigers were productive at the plate, batting .326 (46-for-141) in four games with 32 runs, 12 doubles, two triples and one home runs … LSU also recorded eight stolen bases in 12 attempts, and the team posted a .411 on-base percentage … freshman outfielder Antoine Duplantis led LSU to the series victory over Sacramento State, batting .545 (6-for-11) with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored … he also walked once and did not strike out in 11 at-bats … for the entire week, Duplantis batted .500 (7-for-14) with three doubles, two RBI, four runs, two walks, two sacrifice bunts, one stolen base and no strikeouts in 14 at bats … his on-base percentage for the week was .563, and he also posted a 1.000 fielding percentage with six putouts in right field … Duplantis, who has hit safely in each of LSU’s seven games this season, recorded a career-best four hits – including two doubles – in Saturday’s game versus Sacramento State … sophomore leftfielder Beau Jordan batted .455 (5-for-11) in four games with one double, two runs and five RBI … Jordan ripped a bases-loaded double in the third inning of Sunday’s win over Sacramento State to highlight a five-run outburst … junior second baseman and lead-off hitter Kramer Robertson batted .400 (6-for-15) last week, scoring six runs while collecting two doubles, one triple and three RBI … junior left-hander Jared Poche’ earned his first win of the season and the 19th of his career with six shutout innings on Friday night against Sacramento State … Poche’ allowed just two singles and limited the Hornets to a .105 batting average during his outing … Poche’ recorded three walks and eight strikeouts, tying his career high for Ks set last season versus UNC Wilmington in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional … Poche’ did not allow a Sacramento State runner to advance beyond second base during his six innings of work … senior left-hander John Valek III turned in a brilliant outing on Sunday against Sacramento State, limiting the Hornets to one run on four hits in seven innings with no walks and six strikeouts … Valek is now 2-0 on the year with a 2.13 ERA, and he has recorded no walks and 13 strikeouts in 12.2 innings while limiting opponents to a .174 batting average … the LSU pitching staff registered a 1.67 ERA in the Sacramento State series, allowing only five earned runs in 27 innings with seven walks and 37 strikeouts.
