BATON ROUGE – LSU sophomore Sydney Cavin, just one day after her first collegiate golf victory for the Lady Tigers, was named the Southeastern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for her rallying triumph in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at English Turn.
Tuesday Cavin rallied from a tie for seventh after 36 holes to post a four-birdie, one-bogey round of 3-under 69 to move to the lead in the final stages of the round.
Cavin found herself in the final fairway when pay was halted on a weather delay, but the tournament was able to resume and the 17 teams were able to finish the round. If the round had not finished, it would have reverted back to the 36-hole scores. Cavin was able to get her par on the final hole to finish at 5-under 211 (69-73-69).
A golfer from Michigan State, Sarah Burnham, tied her at 5-under par and because of the weather, a scorecard playoff was held on the back nine totals with Cavin taking the title, -2 to -1.
Cavin, who hails from Baton Rouge, had 11 birdies during the course of the tournament.
