BATON ROUGE, La-The LSU beach volleyball team will participate in the annual Purple and Gold Scrimmage that will be held at 10 a.m. at Mango’s Beach Volleyball Club this Saturday.
The scrimmage will consist of multiple rounds with different matchups as each player will have the opportunity to play with different pairs and partners leading up to the season opener.
“The goal for us (for the scrimmage) is to get some good evaluations of players playing with different people,” said associate head coach Russell Brock. “We’ll use this to evaluate pairs in a competition like environment to hopefully get a good idea of how our team is going to look for the 2016 season. Our goal is to be better than last year, so that means we may end up with different pairs and different orders.”
After the scrimmage, the team will put on a children’s clinic for kids of all ages up to junior high that will start at 12 p.m. and will run until about 1 p.m.
“We have some young kids that come, but we have the ability to kind of tailor our clinic to fit where each kid is in their game,” explained Brock. “Part of it is teaching them how to play and letting them interact with the team. (But we also want to) develop community interest and to have fun with people who want to be involved in beach volleyball.”
The Lady Tigers will play their play their first match of the season next Friday against Jacksonville in the FIU Beach Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
