BATON ROUGE, La. — The 19th-ranked LSU women’s tennis team (8-3) returns to the courts of the LSU Tennis Complex for a doubleheader against Tulane and UNO Wednesday at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
“We were able to take a much needed rest after three weeks on the road,” co-head coach Julia Sell said. “It was good to get back on the courts and practice. This team is refreshed and ready to compete again.”
The first 50 fans in attendance will receive an LSU Tennis t-shirt. Play is expected to move indoors due to anticipated weather in the area.
After a week and a half away from competition, the Lady Tigers are in their final stretch of non-conference matches before heading into conference play. The last time out, the team finished the weekend 2-1 with victories over No. 67 NC State and No. 75 Maryland.
In the 5-2 win over the Wolfpack, No. 25 Joana Vale Costa clinched the match. She is now 7-2 on the season on court one for LSU. The junior has also teamed up with sophomore Ryann Foster on court one doubles.
In singles play, Foster is a perfect 9-0 for LSU this season on court four and is on an 11-match win streak dating back to the fall. All nine of Foster’s wins this spring have come in two sets.
Senior Skylar Kuykendall has changed between courts two and three and owns a 6-5 record. Kuykendall clinched the match over Maryland with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Nataliya Bredikhina.
Jessica Golovin holds a 5-5 record between the top three courts. Golovin earned wins in LSU’s matches over both NC State and Maryland.
Tulane is 3-7 on the season and most recently dropped its match to No. 18 Ole Miss 4-0 Monday. Tulane assistant coach Chris Simpson returns to Baton Rouge after an outstanding four years for the men’s team. Simpson was selected to the All-SEC team three times during his LSU career. This is his first coaching role since graduating from LSU.
Last season, the Lady Tigers swept Tulane and UNO in a doubleheader at the City Park Pepsi Center in New Orleans. LSU took down the Green Wave 7-0 in the first match and then defeated the Privateers 6-0.
