BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU sophomore right-hander Alex Lange was named on Monday the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week by the league office.
Lange, a product of Lee’s Summit, Mo., improved his LSU career record to 13-0 as he defeated Cincinnati on Saturday in his 2016 season debut. Lange worked 6.2 shutout innings, allowing just one hit with three walks and nine strikeouts in the Tigers’ 4-0 win.
Cincinnati’s only hit against Lange was a single, as he limited the Bearcats to a .048 batting average in the contest and did not allow a baserunner to advance beyond second base. Lange retired 10 consecutive hitters, beginning with the fourth inning through the first out of the seventh inning.
Lange, the 2015 National Freshman Pitcher of the Year, is 13-0 in two seasons at LSU with a 1.86 ERA in 120.2 innings. He has recorded 140 strikeouts and issued 49 walks while limiting opponents to a .204 batting average.
