BATON ROUGE, La.– The LSU men’s tennis team, after taking a win over No. 35 Drake, continued through their doubleheader to sweep instate opponent Nicholls 7-0 at the LSU home opener in Baton Rouge.
LSU played a tight doubles point against the Colonels. Although the court one duo of Boris Arias and Jordan Daigle quickly took a 6-0 victory against Nicholls’ Oscar Reeve and Kieran Cronin the remanding courts both let their opponents win five games before Justin Butsch and Nikola Samardic finished the doubles point with a 7-5 victory on court three.
“In double, we got a little goofy in the beginning to be honest, but the guys settled down and got the doubles point and then really took care of business in singles against Nicholls,” Head Coach Jeff Brown said.
In singles, LSU did not lose a single set with a solid 6-1, 6-2 victory from newcomer Nikola Samardzic to start off the Tiger’s perfect singles performance. This is the first match Samardzic has participated in after enrolling in January as a blue chip recruit.
LSU also saw big wins from Gabor Csonka, winning 6-1, 6-2 on court four and Justin Butsch who took court one 6-1, 6-3. Butsch was responsible for clenching both the Nicholls and Drake matches.
This is the second consecutive year the Tigers have won 7-0 against the Colonels and hope to continue this momentum through to Friday, Feb. 26 when they play North Florida at 5 p.m. at home.
