BATON ROUGE, La— The 13th-ranked LSU women’s tennis team (6-2) returns home after a six-match road stretch to take on No. 67 North Carolina State (3-0) at 4 p.m. Friday at the LSU Tennis Complex.
The Lady Tigers head into the weekend with the highest team rankings since at least the 2003 season. Last weekend, LSU advanced to the quarterfinal of the ITA Team Indoor Championships after defeating No. 10 Oklahoma State. The win over the Cowgirls was the fifth top-10 for the program in the last 24 seasons and the second under co-head coach Julia Sell.
Joana Vale Costa leads the way on court one for LSU. The junior is ranked 25th in the country and holds a 4-2 dual match record. Vale Costa and sophomore Ryann Foster form the top doubles on court one with a 4-1 record and ranking of 42.
Foster is a perfect 6-0 this season on court four for LSU in singles play. She’s on an eight-match win streak dating back to the fall season.
Freshman Jessica Golovin has been a strong point of the lineup on court two. Golovin is ranked 40th in the country in singles play. She is 3-4 this season and has clinched matches against Nicholls and No. 24 Georgia Tech this season.
This is just the second meeting between LSU and North Carolina State. The Lady Tigers defeated the Wolfpack 7-0 last season in a clean sweep.
