Tiger Park Enhancements: Entrances and Tailgating

BATON ROUGE, La. – In 2015, more than 69,000 fans attended 43 LSU softball home games as the team went on to earn a trip to the Women’s College World Series for the fourth time in program history. With fan support at a record high, enhancements were made in and around Tiger Park to give LSU fans one of the best collegiate softball experiences in the country.

In consecutive weeks last season LSU and Tiger Park hosted the 2015 SEC Softball Tournament, NCAA Baton Rouge Regional and NCAA Baton Rouge Super Regional, welcoming a host of fans from all over for nearly a month of softball action. During that run, event organizers were able to put in place initiatives to assist with the influx of fans to the facility.

Included in the enhancements to the outfield berm, which is now known as the Tiger Park Terrace and other areas, measures were put in place for fans coming to the stadium with new parking and entrance measures to ensure every fan the best possible gameday experience.

The tailgating atmosphere last season was second-to-none, leaving visitors and opposing teams alike with an amazing taste of Louisiana’s great culture. Like postseason play last year, the team is looking forward to another great year and lots of tailgating in the grass area next to the soccer stadium where permanent restrooms will be available two hours prior to the first pitch of all LSU games.

Spots for cars and RV’s will be marked, as fans are asked to help keep the campus beautiful by bagging all trash and using recycling containers. Fans may also use tents in the tailgating area, but they cannot be larger than 10′ by 10′ or staked into the ground. Fans using a tent or canopy over the tailgate of a vehicle are asked to be mindful in allowing the surrounding travel lanes to stay open for traffic.

All parking lots around Tiger Park for games are free and open to the public for every contest. All handicap parking spaces are located near the front entrance of the park where the ramp is located which leads to the designated handicap areas of the field.

Season ticket holders and fans that purchase their tickets online can enter the facility through the gates next to the park ticket office, or may enter the park through a new gate that is located in centerfield. Patrons must have a ticket to enter through the new centerfield gate, as fans will first need to purchase their ticket to the game at the Tiger Park ticket office prior to entering.

For the safety and security of the visiting teams, umpires, officials and television crews, the clubhouse lot will be restricted to those with permits only. No handicap spaces remain in the lot, and are now all moved to the front entrance of the park. The gate and ramp located down the back of the first base line is also no longer an entrance or exit for the public and will be accessed by officials with proper credentials.

Over 1,600 fans on average attended LSU games last season, the most ever to watch games in the new Tiger Park. 2016 is primed for an even bigger year with LSU playing 37 total games in Baton Rouge this season as the Tigers roar toward another banner season.
