TAMPA, Fla.– The Tigers have taken their first match of the dual season, 4-1, against No. 29 Mississippi State in the ITA Kick-Off weekend hosted by the University of South Florida.

After a two and a half hour match delay due to weather, the eager to play Tiger team took the courts against the Bulldogs at 10:30 a.m. CT.

LSU launched themselves forward by winning the doubles point against State. Duo Andrew Korinek and Gabor Csonka won the first doubles court with a score of 6-3 along with a 6-4 victory to follow from Justin Butsch and Tam Trinh.

In singles, LSU’s Simon Freund let the first match slip away, falling 3-6, 4-6 to Nuno Borges but LSU then turned it around winning the next three courts with a tight match triumph from Andrew Korinek to seal the victory.

“I’m really proud of the guys for handling the conditions today. It was not typical Florida by any means,” Head Coach Jeff Brown said. “Ultimately it was a really good team win, the kind that as a coach you are really proud of. Everybody didn’t play perfectly but we were able to overcome a tough situation.”

Sunday, LSU will take the courts again against the winner of the Florida State University vs. University of South Florida matchup.
