BATON ROUGE, La. — Jessica Golovin has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week after her performance in the LSU’s victory over Nicholls and Southern, the conference office announced Wednesday.
In her first dual match play as a Lady Tiger, Golovin defeated Julia Melendez of Nicholls 6-1, 6-4 to clinch the match. The New York native returned in the afternoon to defeat Southern’s Darnesha Moore 6-0, 6-4 and complete the sweep of the Jaguars.
Golovin is No. 52 in the ITA singles rankings. The freshman started out strong this fall. In tournament play, Golovin compiled a 9-3 record, including a 4-1 mark against ranked foes.
Golovin and the Lady Tigers return to action Saturday for the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The team will take on DePaul at 3 p.m. CT at Georgia Tech’s Byers Tennis Complex.
