BATON ROUGE – LSU forward Ben Simmons was named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Week for the third time this season for his performance in LSU wins over Old Miss and Arkansas.
It was the fourth time this season, the native of Australia has been honored by the league, having also been named league Player of the Week on one occasion.
Simmons averaged 15.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and five assists in wins over Ole Miss and Arkansas. Simmons had two double figure games and a double double in the two games. Against Arkansas, he posted his league leading and NCAA freshman leading 13th double-double when he had 16 points and 18 rebounds. It marked the fifth time this season he has posted 15 points and 15 rebounds in a game. Had 15 points and 5 rebounds with seven assists against Ole miss.
He was 12-of-26 from the field in the two games and 7-of-13 from the field with 23 total rebounds, 10 assists and 31 points in the two contests.
Simmons is averaging 20.0 points per game (third in the league) and a league-best 12.9 rebounds a contest for the year.
