BATON ROUGE – Sandra Smith, an LSU Track & Field letterwinner and No. 3-ranked steeplechaser in school history, is set to moderate Thursday’s Republican presidential pre-debate alongside Fox Business Network colleague Trish Regan as the event will be held in North Charleston, South Carolina, and air on FBN beginning at 5 p.m. CT.

Tonight’s Republican presidential pre-debate will feature former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, who also qualified to appear in the pre-debate, elected not to attend the event at the North Charleston Coliseum and Performing Arts Center.

Smith, who lettered with the Lady Tigers during the 2003 season, has been a contributor to the Fox Business Network since October 2007, according to her profile at FoxBusiness.com.

She joined the network as a reporter in 2007, and currently appears across the FBN schedule providing stock market analysis and commentary. She often features on Maria Bartiromo’s pre-market program, Mornings with Maria, that appears weekdays from 5-8 a.m. CT. Smith also appears on Fox News Channel’s Outnumbered, which is the top-rated program in its time slot weekdays from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. CT.

Smith was one of LSU’s leading distance runners during her time in Baton Rouge while running the mile during the indoor season and the 1,500 meters, 3,000 meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase during the outdoor season. She also competed as a member of LSU’s cross country team during the fall season.

She remains in LSU’s record books with her performance as a steeplechaser as her career-best time of 11 minutes, 57.98 seconds ranks her third in school history on LSU’s all-time outdoor performance list.
