BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU is ranked No. 7 in the D1 Baseball.com poll released Tuesday, marking the Tigers’ second Top 10 designation of the 2016 preseason. LSU was also ranked No. 7 last month in the Collegiate Baseball newspaper preseason poll.
The Tigers, who have the most wins (204) in the nation over the past four seasons, won the SEC championship last season and advanced to the College World Series for the second time in three years.
LSU is one of four Southeastern Conference teams appearing in the D1Baseball.com 2016 preseason Top 10, along with No. 1 Florida, No. 3 Vanderbilt and No. 4 Texas A&M.
Other SEC squads appearing in the Top 25 are No. 15 Mississippi State, No. 17 South Carolina and No. 25 Arkansas. One of LSU’s non-conference opponents, Louisiana-Lafayette, is No. 18 in the poll.
The Tigers will begin preseason practice on Friday, January 29, and LSU opens the 2016 season at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 19 versus Cincinnati in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.
