ATHENS, Ga – Senior Cassie Weil finished 10th on one-meter with a score of 260.25 and junior Andrew Suchla turned in a score of 312.40 on three-meter for a 12th place finish on the opening day of the Georgia Diving Invitational Sunday at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.

Weil and Suchla were the lone LSU divers to reach the finals on the first day of competition in a stacked field. Weil opened prelims of one-meter with a score of 255.45 for 10th place. Suchla finished in fifth place during prelims with a score of 343.

For the women, senior Allie Alter finished 13th on one-meter with a score of 251.55 and just missed moving on to the final by .30. Madison Sthamann opened the new year by finishing 20th (241.05). Rileigh Knox and Katie Lagarde rounded out the group of Lady Tigers by finishing 25th and 40th respectively.

In addition to Suchla’s performance on the men’s side, the freshmen turned a nice opening day. Matthew Phillip finished 15th with a score of 281.15, and Matt McClellan followed at 17 with a score of 279.65.

The LSU divers return to competition for day two of the invite Monday at 10 a.m. The men will compete on one-meter while the women will take to three-meter.
