In the fourth of a six-part series introducing the LSU softball freshman class, today we get to know infielder Shemiah Sanchez.
Why did you choose to sign with LSU?
I really loved the campus and the softball facilities. Once I got here, I just knew this was the place I was supposed to be. It’s a great atmosphere. And who wouldn’t want to go to a school with a live tiger on campus!?
What do you like most about LSU and Baton Rouge?
My teammates are my family away from home. I really like the food too. Everyone is so friendly and willing to help out.
What is your favorite part about being an athlete at LSU?
My favorite part about being an athlete at LSU is that all of the athletes are a family. My favorite part about being an LSU softball player is bonding with the team and working hard together to get that Natty.
What are your favorite hobbies outside of softball?
I like cooking for my roommates, Akiya and Elyse. I also like to relax and watch Netflix.
What is your favorite LSU tradition?
My favorite LSU traditions are singing the Alma Mater every football game and tailgaiting with friends and teammates. I also like yelling out ‘TIGER BAIT’ to the opposing teams.
Why did you choose your uniform number?
I originally wanted to wear #24 when I started playing because it was my brother’s number. I found out that coach’s daughter at the time already had it so I chose #23, and it stuck.
