In the second of a six-part series introducing the LSU softball freshman class, today we get to know outfielder Akiya Thymes.
Why did you choose to sign with LSU?
I chose LSU because it has been my dream school since I was a little girl. LSU has a beautiful campus. We also have the best softball field and the best fans in the NCAA.
What do you like most about LSU and Baton Rouge?
LSU is a home away from home even though I grew up only 10 minutes away from campus. LSU is surrounded by beautiful places with plenty of great food (crawfish, red beans, jambalaya).
What is your favorite part about being an athlete at LSU?
The softball team was so welcoming and caring. My favorite part about being on this team is the bond that everyone has with one another. It feels as if we have been a family for years now.
What are your favorite hobbies outside of softball?
Outside of softball I like to shop until I drop!! I also like meeting new people and hanging out with friends and family.
What is your favorite LSU tradition?
My favorite LSU tradition is tailgating and yelling ‘TIGER BAIT!’ to fans of the other team. I also like stomping during the second-to-last line of the Alma Mater and yelling ‘FOREVER LSU’ at the end.
Why did you choose your uniform number?
I have worn #00 throughout all of my travel ball years, and… Ashley Langoni wore it!
