BATON ROUGE – After captaining the LSU Tigers into the semifinal round of the SEC Women’s Soccer Tournament for the first time in five seasons, seniors Alex Arlitt and Natalia Gomez-Junco were honored as part of the SEC All-Tournament Team announced Sunday by the league office following Florida’s 2-1 win over Texas A&M in the final.
The No. 7-seeded Tigers (13-5-4) defeated No. 10-seeded Kentucky in the first round and No. 2-seeded Missouri in the second round to return to the SEC semifinals for the sixth time in team history. LSU also earned a spot in the semifinal round in 2002 before making four-straight appearances from 2007-10.
The Tigers extended their unbeaten streak to six-straight matches with their defeats of Kentucky and Missouri before falling 1-0 to Texas A&M in Friday’s semifinal at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.
LSU will now take its top-40 ranking in the NCAA’s Ratings Percentage Index into Monday’s NCAA Tournament Selection Show that will air live on NCAA.com beginning at 3:30 p.m. CT. The Tigers are looking to return to the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Tournament for the first time since 2011 and the fifth time in program history.
