BATON ROUGE – With her freshman season set to begin in less than two months, LSU gymnast Sarah Finnegan has been hard at work during fall practice with her teammates.
One of the most highly-recruited athletes in her class, Finnegan is ready to step in and compete for a spot in all four lineups in her first season as a Tiger.
Finnegan trained as a senior international elite gymnast and served as an alternate for the U.S. Gymnastics Olympic team, known as the “Fierce Five,” that won gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Why did you choose LSU?
After my official visit at LSU, I just felt like this is where I needed to go. I loved the coaches and the girls, and I felt like this is where I would have the best opportunity to succeed with my collegiate gymnastics career. Not only are the athletics amazing, but also with all of the academic help they provide, I finally decided that LSU was the best fit for me.What has been your favorite moment at LSU?
From experiencing LSU on game day and screaming my lungs out for our Tigers, to laughing until I’m crying with these great girls I get to call my teammates, I can’t decide on a favorite. There are too many great moments to choose from! What are your goals for the 2016 season?
Being a freshman, I’m not really sure what to expect going in, but my goal for each meet is to go with confidence and hit my best routine every time. What have you worked on the most in the gym to prepare for 2016?Consistency and attention to detail. College gymnastics is all about perfection.
Have you checked out the construction of the new training facility? What are your thoughts?
Yes, and it is amazing! They literally thought of everything and more! We have all of the resources we need in one place, and it is going to be fantastic.Ok, now to the fun questions.
What do you like most about your hometown?
I like the four seasons we have in Missouri. The spring full of growth, the hot summers, the leaves changing in the fall, and the chilly winters.Do you have a talent other than gymnastics? What is it?
I played violin when I was younger, and I taught myself how to play piano. Now I know how to play a couple of songs. If the team was to come to your house for dinner, what would you prepare for them? Be honest 🙂
Filipino food. My mom came to visit one weekend and she made all of us different Filipino recipes; everyone loved it!
What is your go-to Pandora station?
Either today’s hits or country, but it also depends on my mood. I have a very wide variety of music.
What song describes your work ethic when it comes to gymnastics?
I have no idea!
How many quarters would you need to stack in order to reach the top of the Maravich Center?
6,282,958,261,538,592,628,494…honestly I just typed in a bunch of random numbers. 🙂
Without looking it up, can you tell us how many years Bob Moore has coached at LSU?
I honestly have no idea…30 maybe?
If someone asked you why they should get LSU gymnastics season tickets, what would you tell them?
What better way to spend your Friday night than going to go watch LSU gymnastics!?! It’s going to be an amazing year; you won’t regret it!
Do you want to build a snowman?
