BATON ROUGE, La.– The LSU Invitational began Thursday with matches from LSU, Princeton and Texas A&M, facing off in both doubles and singles.
LSU duo Tam Trinh and Justin Butsch secured the first win in the new LSU Tennis Complex over Princeton’s Thomas Colautti and Alexander Day 8-2. Along with success from Trinh and Butsch, the Tiger’s team of Simon Freund and Gabor Csonka picked up another doubles win over Kial Kaiser and Diego Vives of Princeton 8-6.
LSU also excelled in singles play, winning four out of six courts. Baton Rouge native, Cameron Andry got an exciting three set win over Princeton’s Florin Radu 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(4) for his first collegiate singles victory.
Along with doubles success, partners Freund and Csonka both took singles wins over Princeton. Freund picked up a deciding 6-1, 6-3 victory over Josh Yablon and Csonka defeated Kail Kaiser in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
“Tomorrow, the guys need to come out with enthusiasm ready to go, regardless whether we are inside or outside, ready for what ever the day might bring,” Head Coach Jeff Brown said. “We want to come out and try to build on today’s results.”
The Tigers are set to begin play at 9 a.m. CT, Friday with a chance of playing indoors, dependent on the weather.
