BATON ROUGE — The LSU football team was ranked No. 2 in the initial College Football Playoff Rankings, it was announced on ESPN Tuesday evening.
After an open date this past weekend, LSU (7-0, 4-0 SEC) will next travel to face No. 4 Alabama (7-1, 4-1 SEC) on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT on CBS.
At the end of the 2015 regular season, the CFP rankings will determine which four teams will take part in the national semifinals to be held Dec. 31 in Arlington, Texas, and Miami Gardens, Fla. Winners of the semifinals will meet for the national championship on Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m. CT in Glendale, Ariz.
Five other SEC teams appeared in the Top 20 of these initial rankings. LSU has all five on its schedule, including wins over No. 10 Florida and No. 20 Mississippi State.
