Dear Tiger Fans,
We are privileged to have the opportunity to play host to Saturday’s game with South Carolina, which has been moved to Tiger Stadium due to the devastating effects of flooding in the Columbia area. We’re especially grateful to our local law enforcement officials for helping us secure the necessary resources and manpower to hold the game in Baton Rouge.
When it became apparent that the severe weather would impact the game, our priority in working toward a solution was doing what was best for the citizens of Columbia and all of the people of South Carolina. Everyone at LSU sends their thoughts and prayers to those affected by this tragedy.
Here are a few important notes to consider about Saturday’s game, which will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT:
- All revenue from ticket sales, minus the expenses we incur, will be sent to the South Carolina athletic department. Please visit www.LSUtix.net for all ticket information about the game. I encourage you to purchase tickets in support of both teams and take advantage of the opportunity to see a matchup between our very talented, fifth-ranked Tigers and a South Carolina squad coached by an SEC legend, Steve Spurrier.
- Red Cross volunteers will be stationed in and around Tiger Stadium on Saturday to accept monetary donations for the flood relief fund. I’m confident our compassionate LSU fans, who are very familiar with the damage a catastrophic weather event can bring, will respond in a big way to the presence of the Red Cross.
- Because of the immediate nature of the game, we will not be fully staffed in our concessions areas; however, our volunteers will work as hard as possible to accommodate our fans. Please note that we will allow each fan to bring one bottle of water into the stadium. The temperature on Saturday afternoon should reach the high 80s, so fans are advised to keep themselves hydrated before and during the game.
- Our parking procedures will be similar to the system we normally employ – we are asking fans to use their parking passes for the Western Kentucky game for this Saturday’s game. Please take special care and hold on to your Western Kentucky parking passes, because you will need them again for the October 24 game.
- Some fans have asked about having the field painted in South Carolina colors, and while that is a great idea; unfortunately, we won’t be able to do it since we have another home game next weekend versus Florida. However, it is our goal to make the South Carolina team and fans feel as welcome as possible in our stadium. In fact, our wonderful Golden Band from Tigerland will perform South Carolina’s fight song and alma mater at the game.
Thanks for your tremendous support of LSU and the citizens of South Carolina, and I’ll look forward to seeing you in Tiger Stadium on Saturday!
As always, we welcome your comments at athletics@lsu.edu. Unfortunately we cannot answer every e-mail we receive, but please be assured they are all read.
Geaux Tigers!
