CCACSA Announces Student-Athletes of the Month

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes honored six student-athletes for their academic achievements and community service for the month of October.

Each month, five student-athletes are recognized for their academic improvement, dedication and proven ability. In addition, one student-athlete is chosen through LSU’s Student-Athlete Affairs program for their volunteerism and commitment to the community.

October’s student-athletes of the month are Lenny Breda [Football], Alex Carson [Swimming and Diving], Ethan Pocic [Football], Amber Serrett [Softball] and Darrel Williams [Football]. Carly Morris [Beach Volleyball] was selected as the Shaquille O’Neal Life Skills Program Student-Athlete of the Month.

Breda, Pocic and Williams are sport administration majors, Carson is a mechanical engineering major, Morris is a biology major and Serrett is a kinesiology major.

A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Breda is a junior wide receiver. He is a third year squad member, and walked on to the program his freshman year.

Carson is a freshman backstroker and freestyle swimmer from Cary, North Carolina. He was named the Co-Southwest Wake Athletic Conference MVP during his senior year after winning the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle and combining to win the 200-yard freestyle relay for his high school, Good Hope.

The junior center from Lemont, Illinois, Pocic, has started all four games for the Tigers this season. Pocic was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week after he recorded 16 knockdowns, paving the way for Leonard Fournette‘s 159 rushing yards on the road at Mississippi State earlier this season.

Serrett, a freshman infielder from Spring, Texas, was a four-time all-district and all-county selection out of Oak Ridge High School, where she also was a member of the National Honor Society and was nominated for the Montgomery County Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Freshman running back Darrel Williams hails from Marrero, Louisiana. He ran for a career-high 89 yards on 11 carries versus Eastern Michigan, racking up a career-high 40-yard rush. As a freshman, Williams rushed for 302 yards and three touchdowns.

Morris was selected as the Shaquille O’Neal Life Skills Program Student-Athlete of the Month for her dedication to the community, participating in numerous service events throughout her career. The sophomore beach volleyball team member partnered with Emily Ehrle at the No.4 position to begin the 2015 season before teaming up with Katarina Raicevic. She notched an 11-12 combined record on the year and was named to the SEC First Year Academic Honor Roll.

For putting forth extra effort in the classroom and community in addition to their rigorous academic and competition schedules, these six student-athletes will have their pictures displayed on the wall in the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes.

The Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes is a 54,000 square foot facility comprised of an academic affairs, student affairs and an information technology team, serving more than 530 student-athletes.
