TULSA, Okla. – Three Tigers competed in the opening round of the ITA All-American tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma Saturday with two advancing to the second round.
Freshman Cameron Andry took the match to a third set after falling just shy in the first set 5-7. Coming back to take the second set 7-5, Andry brought his determination to the third set but eventually fell 6-4 to opponent Damon Niquet of William and Mary.
“Cameron fought hard and got better as the match went on,” said Head Coach Jeff Brown. “He will learn from today and try to bounce back tomorrow.”
Freund, after coming off of a successful weekend at the Cajun Tennis Classic, carried the momentum to secure a win against TJ Pura of Duke University 6-3, 6-4.
For transfer Gabor Csonka, he was able to get a win in two set for his Tigers debut. Csonka swept opponent Luke Johnson of Clemson 6-0 in the first set to finish the match 6-3.
“It was a strong opening match from Gabor over his Clemson opponent. He put the petal to the floor the whole match,” Brown said.
