Notes on the Tigers
LSU returns to action this Friday and Sunday, traveling to take on Tennessee and No. 20 Kentucky to continue SEC play… LSU is 9-11 on the season and 5-4 in league play after splitting a pair of matches last week, falling to Texas A&M before defeating Auburn… Beginning this weekend, the Tigers will play six of their final nine games away from Baton Rouge, with just three matches remaining at home during this stretch… LSU has won three of its last five matches and five of its last eight overall… The Tigers are currently fifth in the SEC standings entering the weekend… Sunday’s win over Auburn was the team’s third in five sets this season… Of their seven total five-setters this season, five have come in league play alone… LSU has already matched its total number of five set matches from last season with nine matches left to play… Over the course of the last two years, LSU has played 10 five-set matches in SEC play alone out of 14… Sunday’s match took two hours, 41 minutes to play, the second longest-match of the year for the group and six minutes shy of tying the longest this season… The 66 kills against Auburn were a season high for LSU, as the 99 digs tied the team’s season high… The Tigers finished with 13 team blocks, one shy of matching their season high, as it was the second time this season that the group finished with six solo blocks against an opponent… Gina Tillis had 19 kills and has led the team in the category in each of the last three matches and six of the last eight… Tillis was one of three players to earn double-figure kills along with Cati Leak‘s 17 and Mimi Eugene‘s 16… The 16 for Eugene was a new season and career high… Freshman Lindsay Flory has led the team in assists in each of the last two matches, earning a new season-best 28 against Auburn… Haley Smith had 39 digs, a new career-high mark for the senior, which is also the second most in a five-set match at LSU and third-most in a single match in program history… That total is also second-most for an individual in the SEC this season… Smith was one of four players with double-figure digs along with Leak’s 17 and Eugene and Katie Lindelow‘s 14 each… Emily Ehrle and Olivia Beyer accounted for four of LSU’s six solo blocks in the match, with Beyer having six total blocks and Ehrle having five… The two combined for 16 total blocks to lead the team in the two matches last week.
