Tennis Teams Fall in ITA Regional Semifinal

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Sunday, LSU continued in the final day of the ITA Southern Regional with doubles team Justin Butsch and Tam Trinh along with Gabor Csonka in singles.

LSU’s duo faced Alabama’s Korey Lovett and Becker O’Shaughnessey in the Doubles Main Draw Semifinals. Alabama took the first set with a deciding 6-1 win but fell in the second set to LSU 6-7(6). The Tigers kept their momentum to go into the third set tiebreaker but ultimately fell 10-6.

“Today in doubles despite not playing our best, we played well in the second set,” said Head Coach Jeff Brown. “Alabama played a nice ten-point tiebreaker to win it but Tam and Justin got some good experience playing together.”

In the singles consolation bracket, Csonka fell to Niclas Braun of Mississippi State 7-6(2), 6-2.

“We’ve got some work to be done but it was good picking up a few wins,” Brown said. “We look forward to coming back to practice to get ready for our tournament at the beginning of November.”

The Tigers will be hosting the LSU invitational in the new LSU Tennis Facility November 5-8 with four teams traveling to play in Baton Rouge.
