TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – LSU doubles team Justin Butsch and Tam Trinh are advancing in the Southern Regional here at the Alabama Tennis Stadium after defeating Ole Miss’s Zvonimir Babic and Fabian Fallert 8-6, 6-3.
In the duo’s first match of the day against in-state opponent UL Lafayette the team picked up a victory over Coleman Wahlborg and Jake Wynan 8-6, 6-3.
Along with the success in doubles, LSU’s Gabor Csonka won the Round of 16 consolation match against UAB’s Eric Komati 7-5, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, Csonka defeated Daniel Merker of Southern Miss 6-2, 7-5.
“Gabor picked up two more confidence building wins,” said Head Coach Jeff Brown. “It’s been nice seeing him improve throughout the tournament and we hope to build going into tomorrow’s semifinals.”
In the Singles Main Draw quarterfinals, LSU’s Simon Freund took the first set over South Alabama’s Tuki Jacobs 6-4 but ultimately fell in the final two sets 7-5, 6-1.
Sunday, the ITA Southern Regional will conclude with LSU participating in the semifinals of both the Singles Consolation bracket and the Doubles Main Draw.
