BATON ROUGE – The LSU men’s basketball team held the first of two days of basketball practices with NBA scouts and player personnel staff members on hand Tuesday at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The final 70 minutes of the 100-minute practice was streamed on the SEC Network and WatchESPN.com. Reporter Laura Rutledge also was on hand for a recap on SEC Now later in the evening on the Network.
The Tigers practice will follow the same script on Wednesday with scouts in attendance along with media members attending the local basketball media day.
The Tigers worked on drills ranging from 5-on-0 to 1-on-1 and some 3-on-2 back to 2-on-1 fast break drills before finishing with two 10-minute scrimmage sessions.
Coach Johnny Jones said the players knew some 30 NBA teams were watching at the practice, but the hard work shown was nothing new.
“I thought they worked extremely hard,” Coach Johnny Jones said. “But this practice is nothing different. They’ve generally done that every day. We were trying to get them to play with a little more flow. I thought we took some early shots, quick shots is probably the phrase … At least I thought the effort was there so I’m very pleased with it. I know we have a long ways to go but I like the direction we are going with this group.”
LSU plays its exhibition game at the Maravich Center on Nov. 6 against Southwest Baptist before opening the 2015-16 season at home against McNeese State on Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. on ESPNU. Season tickets are available at LSUtix.net.
