BATON ROUGE – LSU center Ethan Pocic and running back Derrius Guice each picked up weekly honors from the Southeastern Conference on Monday for their play in the Tigers’ win over South Carolina, the league office announced.
Pocic, a junior from Lemont, Ill., earned SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week, while Guice was named the SEC Freshman of the Week.
Pocic, who also won the award for his play in LSU’s win over Mississippi State, graded out at 95 percent and led the Tigers with 17 knockdowns. He didn’t allow a sack or quarterback pressure in helping the Tiger offense rack up a season-high 624 total yards.
Guice, a Baton Rouge native, had his best outing as a Tiger, rushing for a career-high 161 yards on 16 carries. Guice also scored his first career touchdown and averaged 10.1 yards a carry in leading LSU’s running game to 396 total yards.
Guice’s 161 rushing yards were the most by a true freshman since 2003 when Justin Vincent had 201 yards in the SEC Championship Game win over Georgia.
