PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — LSU women’s tennis’ Joana Vale Costa defeated Vanderbilt’s Frances Altick 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the opening round of the consolation final. The junior was ultimately forced to retire in the second round, which ended her run at the ITA All-American Friday at the Riviera Tennis Club.
“It is always a difficult decision to retire in a match,” co-head coach Julia Sell said. “Joana was feeling very sick and light headed so we felt it was right to stop.”
The Lady Tigers will return to practice in Baton Rouge before competing in the ITA Southern Regional Oct. 16-19, at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, Alabama.
