PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — Junior Joana Vale Costa started out strong but ultimately fell to Georgia’s Ellen Perez to end the ITA All-American for the LSU women’s tennis team Thursday at the Riviera Tennis Club.
Vale Costa took the opening set and had match point in the second set before ultimately falling to Perez 6-4, 5-7, 2-6.
“It is certainly a tough loss after having match point in the second set,” co-head coach Julia Sell said. “These matches are invaluable learning experiences for how to adjust to his new format. Joana will be a stronger player from this.”
The Lady Tigers will return to practice in Baton Rouge before competing in the ITA Southern Regional Oct. 16-19, at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, Alabama.
