Butsch Moves to Day 2 of ITA All-American Qualifing

TULSA, Okla. – Justin Butsch advances to the second day of the All-American Qualifiers after defeating Alex Gornet of Louisville in three sets.

Butsch took the first set 7-6 (12-10), dropped the second 3-6 but came back with a score of 6-3 in the third set to continue into the second round.

“He won a really close first set and won 12-10 in the tiebreaker which was awesome, he was very clutch,” said Assistant Coach Danny Bryan. “A poor second set but he came back strong in the third. We are looking forward to tomorrow.”

A total of three LSU tennis players competed Monday in the ITA All-American Qualifying round in Tulsa Oklahoma.

Along with teammates Butsch and Tam Trinh, senior Boris Arias competed in day one facing Karue Sell of UCLA. Arias fell in the first set 2-6 but was able to take the match into a third set after a 6-4 second set comeback. Arias fought hard to stay in the match forcing it to a third set but eventually fell 6-7 (2).

Doubles play starts Tuesday in the ITA All-American tournament. LSU will have two duos competing, Tam Trinh and Justin Butsch as well as Gabor Csonka and Simon Freund.
