BATON ROUGE – With 10 days of preseason training now under their belts, members of the LSU Soccer team have made the trip to the site of the SEC Tournament in Orange Beach, Alabama, where they will face the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles in a preseason friendly that is set to kick off on Friday night at 7 p.m. CT at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.
Admission to Friday’s match at the Orange Beach Sportsplex is free as the teams will play a standard 90-minute match with two 45-minute halves and no overtime should the match end in a draw in regulation.
The Tigers are looking to build on their success from the 2015 spring season in which they posted a 3-1-1 record when they defeated the Golden Eagles by a 5-0 scoreline in an exhibition match played at the LSU Soccer Stadium in Baton Rouge back in March. LSU also picked up a 2-0 win over Ole Miss and 3-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana while also playing Auburn to a 1-1 draw on the road this spring.
LSU’s lone defeat in the spring season came at the hands of the reigning NCAA Champions when the Tigers fell 3-1 to the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee on the night of April 11 in their spring finale.
“We’re coming off a solid spring season in which our players were able to have some success against some very good teams, all while really building up their fitness in the process. They’ve carried that into preseason as we continue to get ready for next week,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “Our match tomorrow night against a quality Southern Miss team is another step toward that.”
After playing the Golden Eagles in a preseason friendly match on Friday night, the Tigers will hold five more training sessions through next Thursday before traveling to Eugene, Oregon, where they will face the Oregon Ducks in their 2015 season opener on Friday, Aug. 21, with kickoff set for 9 p.m. CT at Oregon’s Pape Field. The match will be televised live by the Pac-12 Network.
