BATON ROUGE — Highly touted LSU beach volleyball signee Ashley Allmer won the Rox Volleyball Series National Championship in the 18U Division earlier this summer with her partner and Florida State commit Macy Jerger.
The duo is fresh off their victory in the AAU Jr. Championships in Hermosa Beach, California earlier in the month, which marks the first time a gold medal in the 18U Division has been won by a non-California team. The Sarasota, Florida native has dominated 2015, placing in the top 10 in all her tournaments, combining for a total of 10 first place finishes this year.
“I think she’s proven that she’s a great player,” said head coach Russell Brock. “The two tournaments that she won were big tournaments on a national stage. For her to be able to have that kind of success, it makes a big statement about the type of player that she is. We’re excited to get her in, and we know that she’s just tapping into her potential, and that she’s going to be way better than she is right now, and that’s exciting.”
Allmer joins a class with fellow recruits Megan Davenport, Madison Ligon, Addison Hoven and Jeni Clark, who capped off their summer with great success participating in tournaments around the country. Allmer and Ligon were nominated for the USA High Performance Program with Allmer qualifying to play in tournament matches and Ligon qualifying to both train and compete in tournaments.
