BURLINGTON, Vt. – LSU director of basketball operations Jon Silver has accepted an assistant coach position at the University of Vermont as announced Thursday by Catamounts head coach Lori Gear McBride.
Silver has been involved in all facets of the Lady Tigers program over the last four seasons. He has coordinated practice and game scheduling, team travel, fundraising, equipment, the student-manager program and the team’s community service initiatives.
Silver has executed the non-conference game scheduling for Coach Caldwell and her staff. LSU had the nation’s toughest schedule in 2013-14 and has faced a Top 30 schedule in each of the last four seasons. Silver helped rebrand the Lady Tiger booster club and oversaw the operation and fundraising efforts for Lady Tiger Elite through its bowling classic, 5K run/walk and golf classic.
“The LSU women’s basketball family is extremely happy for Jon as he gets ready to begin his coaching career,” head coach Nikki Caldwell said. “Jon has been a valuable member of our staff, and we will miss him at LSU. He was committed to the overall success of our program on and off the court. Jon is driven and has all the necessary tools to be a successful assistant coach for Vermont.”
LSU has collected four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances highlighted by a pair of NCAA Sweet 16 trips under Caldwell. The Lady Tigers also have secured a trio of 20-plus win seasons and have reached at least 10 SEC victories three times with Caldwell at the helm.
