Baseball’s Sciambra Named to SEC Service Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – LSU senior outfielder Chris Sciambra was named Tuesday to the 2015 SEC Baseball Community Service Team by the conference office.

The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all of its league-sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service activities.

Sciambra, a native of Baton Rouge who will receive his LSU bachelor’s degree in construction management this weekend, has been one of the leaders of the baseball program’s outstanding community service effort for the past season.

Sciambra, a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, helped served meals on Christmas Eve to needy families, and he participated in the Dreams Come True radiothon to benefit children with serious illnesses.

He has participated in children’s hospital visits, meeting with patients and their families while signing autographs, posing for pictures and lifting their spirits.

Sciambra volunteered at “Move-In Day” on the LSU campus, helping freshmen students move into their dorms at the beginning of the fall semester.

He annually takes part in the Halloween “Boozar” at LSU, as he and his teammates distribute candy to children in the local community. Sciambra served food to the homeless at Thanksgiving, and he delivered inspirational speeches at Fellowship of Christian Athletes meetings.

Sciambra has also helped to conduct youth baseball clinics, and he has worked as a volunteer with the Miracle League, a non-competitive baseball offering for children with physical or mental disabilities.
