BATON ROUGE — After helping lead her team to four consecutive district championships, and berths in the LHSAA state semifinals during those same years, head coach Fran Flory and the LSU volleyball team have announced the addition of Lindsay Flory to the roster for the 2015 season.
A decorated four-year letterwinner at nearby University Lab, Flory will be the sixth newcomer to the LSU roster when she begins her collegiate career as a freshman next fall. She will be one of five freshmen on the team for 2015, joining Olivia Beyer, Katie Kampen, Michelle Irvin and Brittany Welsh, as the team also added Tiara Gibson who will be a junior when the season begins in August.
“We are excited to add Lindsay to our incoming freshman class. She will fill an important role for the fall and brings a true love of LSU to the program,” head coach Fran Flory said. “She has basically grown up as a member of the LSU Volleyball family and she has a true understanding of all aspects of being a student-athlete. Her athleticism and setting ability will allow us to be more versatile in that position and within our team. It is not every day that you get the opportunity to coach your own child, and I am excited that she chose LSU.”
For the last four seasons, Flory has made her mark as one of the best volleyball players in the state of Louisiana, as for the last two seasons she was named the Nola.com-Times Picayune All-Baton Rouge Area Small Schools Volleyball Player of the Year as well as the newspaper’s preseason player of the year pick. She’s helped lead the U-High Cubs to a 133-34 overall mark during her prep tenure, an average of at least 33 wins per season.
The litany of awards for Flory runs the gamut of both her play on the court and work off of it, being a repeat honoree on The Advocate’s Baton Rouge All-Metro team, earning MVP honors as a sophomore in 2012, being a four-year member on the Division IV, District 2 team and most valuable player those same seasons. Her last three years, Flory earned LVCA All-State honors, while also being a composite Academic All-State pick with a grade point average of 3.7.
Transitioning between different positions during her high school career, focusing primarily at the setter position later on, Flory capped her senior year with 359 kills, 445 assists, 248 digs, 108 aces and 13 blocks. This, coming off of a junior campaign where she had 274 kills, 413 assists, 227 digs, 91 aces and 39 blocks.
