COLLEGE STATION, Texas – After a pair of matches against Mississippi State and Texas A&M concluded the regular season for the No. 25 LSU men’s tennis team last week, the Tigers are in College Station, Texas for the 2015 SEC Men’s Tennis Tournament.
The Tigers (16-7, 6-6 SEC) earned the seventh seed in the tournament and will face the tenth-seeded South Carolina Gamecocks (15-14, 3-9 LSU) on Thursday, April 16 at 9 am CST.
“Every match is separate and we are focused on our next match,” said head coach Jeff Brown. “We want to play better than last time and we are more focused on adding more wins to our resume than what happened in the past.”
Both teams faced off in South Carolina on March 6 in a match that was moved indoors last minute and saw the Gamecocks come away with a 4-1 victory.
Despite a heavy chance of rain on Thursday and losing two consecutive matches to end the season, Coach Brown is confident that his team learned from the previous game and will be read to play regardless of the situation.
“Winning and losing is not always indicative of how well you are playing,” Brown said. “This team is playing very well right now. We got a chance to practice inside a little bit this week. With the weather in flux we will practice and stay relaxed and take what comes.”
A win on Thursday would pit the Tigers against No. 6 Texas A&M University in a rematch opportunity where LSU can avenge their largest loss of the season.
Brown maintains that his team is focused only on the next match and will think about future opponents when the time comes.
“Our next opponent does not change how we prepare,” Brown said. “We are focused on our [South Carolina] match and if we play A&M that means we won.”
