LAFAYETTE, La. – LSU shortstop Alex Bregman and Northwestern State right-hander Adam Oller were selected as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Baseball Players of the Week after their respective performances on the diamond.

The pair were nominated by their respective baseball sports information directors and selected by a panel of statewide media members.

Bregman, a junior from Albuquerque, N.M., was named the LSWA Hitter of the Week for the first time this season after posting a .529 average (9-for-17) from the plate with three doubles, two triples, one home run and six RBI in a 4-0 week for the nationally-ranked Tigers. He also added seven runs scored and was 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts as LSU earned a mid-week victory over UL Lafayette last Tuesday in the Wally Pontiff, Jr. Foundation Classic at Zephyr Stadium in Metairie before leading the Tigers to a three-game sweep of SEC rival Alabama.

Bregman, the third Tiger to earn LSWA weekly honors this season, batted .429 (6-for-14) in the Alabama series with two doubles, one triple, two RBI, five runs and three stolen bases. Bregman also kept alive his current streak of reaching base safely in 29 straight games.

Oller, a sophomore from Conroe, Texas, was named the LSWA Pitcher of the Week after his dominating outing against Southeastern Louisiana last Thursday in the first game of a three-game Southland Conference series. Oller recorded his third complete game of the season – all in Southland Conference play – and scattered five hits and fanned a career-high tying nine batters in the 3-1 road win.

Oller, who joined teammate Evan Tidwell in earning LSWA weekly honors, threw 83 of his 117 pitches for strikes and did not walk a batter. Oller retired the final nine batters he faced as he stymied the SLC’s top-hitting team.
