Nine Sports Ranked Entering Holiday Weekend

BATON ROUGE – Nine LSU’s teams that are currently in-season head into Easter weekend ranked among the Top 25 in the nation led by the baseball and softball teams, which are ranked as high as No. 2 nationally.

Of the nine teams, six are ranked in the Top 10, which in addition to baseball and softball, include gymnastics and men’s track at No. 4 along with men’s and women’s golf at No. 6.

The LSU women’s track team is ranked No. 18 this week, while the men’s and women’s tennis teams are both ranked No. 25 in the nation. The No. 25 ranking is the highest spot in the polls for the LSU women’s tennis team since 2009.

LSU’s sand volleyball team, which is just in its second year of existence, is the only LSU sport currently in-season that’s not ranked among the Top 25 in the nation.

LSU starts a busy weekend of activity tonight when the baseball teams faces Alabama in a three-game series in Hoover, Ala. The Tigers and Crimson Tide play at 7 p.m. today, followed by a 3 p.m. game tomorrow and a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday. All three games can be seen on SECNetwork+ and heard on the LSU Sports Radio Network (98.1 FM in Baton Rouge).

The LSU softball team hosts Ole Miss for a three-game set starting tomorrow night 6 at Tiger Park. The Tigers and Ole Miss will play a 2 and 4:30 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. SECNetwork+ and the LSU Sports Radio Network (104.5/104.9 FM in Baton Rouge) will carry all three games.

In other action, the LSU gymnastics team competes on Saturday in the NCAA Regional at Ames, Iowa, while the women’s tennis team is on the road against Arkansas on Friday and Missouri on Sunday. The men’s tennis teams faces No. 16 Florida on Friday in Gainesville followed by an Easter Sunday match at Auburn.

The LSU track team hosts the Battle on the Bayou on Saturday at Bernie Moore Stadium, while the LSU men’s golf team competes at the Aggie Invitational in College Station, Texas on Saturday and Sunday.
