Lady Tigers to Host Nicholls on Wednesday

BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team (12-7, 3-4 SEC), No. 41 in the latest ITA rankings, takes on Nicholls at 4 p.m. Wednesday at ‘Dub’ Robinson Stadium.

“I’m just looking for the girls to carry the momentum and continue to improve going into this road swing,” head coach Julia Sell said. “We competed really well on Friday and Sunday so we have to keep it going against Nicholls.”

The Lady Tigers moved up eight spot to 41 in the team rankings released Tuesday. Joana Vale Costa also moved up to one spot to 39 in singles. Vale Costa notched two ranked wins during the weekend over No. 26 Erin Routliffe of Alabama and No. 73 Pleun Burgmans of Auburn.

Vale Costa along with doubles partner Noel Scott also moved into the ranking to the 32nd spot after defeating No. 6 Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger of Auburn, 8-5, on Sunday . The duo helped secure the doubles point for LSU for the first time since the SEC Tournament last season.

The win over Burgmans/Flickinger was the highest ranked win for an LSU doubles team in at least 15 years and the best since Bruna Colosio and Rocio Fantilli defeated No. 7 Maygora/Witten on April 1, 2002.

Skylar Kuykendall also moved up in the rankings from 115 to 69. Kuykendall swept her matches over the weekend against No. 54 Danielle Spielmann of Alabama and Andie Dikosavljevic of Auburn.

LSU is a perfect 10-0 against Nicholls State. Last season the Lady Tigers defeated Nicholls 5-2 at the ‘Dub’.
