Men’s Tennis Rises to No. 23 in ITA Rankings

BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU men’s tennis team (13-3, 3-2 SEC) cracked the top 25 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division One Men’s rankings for the first time this season when the ITA ranked the Tigers No. 23 in their latest ranking.

The team jumped from No. 33 in the previous rankings after defeating then-No. 11 Vanderbilt by a score of 4-1 last Sunday. Prior to this week, the highest ranking awarded to LSU by the ITA this season was 31.

LSU joins Georgia (5), Texas A&M (7), Ole Miss (13), Florida (15) and Vanderbilt (17) as the six Southeastern Conference teams ranked in the top 25.

The Tigers have two ranked singles players in senior Chris Simpson (117) and sophomore Jordan Daigle (85). The doubles team of junior Boris Arias and Daigle is also ranked No. 18 by the ITA.

Arias and Daigle’s ranking is expected to increase in the next doubles ranking after they defeated two top-ten teams in the last two weeks. Arias and Daigle defeated the No. 1 overall team of Vanderbilt senior Gonzales Austin and junior Rhys Johnson last Sunday as well as the No. 10 team of Georgia juniors Austin Smith and Ben Wagland on March 8.
