BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU right-hander Alex Lange on Monday received National Player of the Week recognition from Collegiate Baseball newspaper, and he was named SEC Freshman of the Week by the league office.
Lange, a native of Lee’s Summit, Mo., fired a career-high 13 strikeouts in eight innings on Saturday versus Ole Miss. Lange, who was not involved in the decision, limited the Rebels to just one earned run on three hits with no walks.
Lange, who threw 117 pitches in the outing, recorded the most strikeouts by an LSU pitcher in a single game since April 11, 2014, when Aaron Nola also collected 13 Ks against Arkansas.
Lange is 4-0 this season with a 1.45 ERA, and he has 39 strikeouts in 31 innings while holding opponents to a .185 batting average. He was also named SEC Freshman of the Week on February 16 after defeating Kansas in his collegiate debut.
